Technology has become so advanced today that many of us who use advance technology never even think about how that technology was created. For example, something that many of us use day in and day out are computers and printers. While almost any business in existence today cannot live without these resources, computer ink is also necessary for printers to do their job.

Computer ink though can be so diverse that choosing the right type or brand can affect a print job. Computer ink can be formed by dye or pigments of a specific quantity and type to establish color; once formed, a surfactant is added to limit the amount of ink used on a print job, which will help avoid smudges and blurred objects on the paper. In addition, biocides, fungicides, buffering agents, and deionized water are included which also provide benefits of limiting ink evaporation and ability to dry on paper.

In choosing computer ink, a consumer must first search for an ink that is compatible to his or her printer. While computer ink is diverse, not all inks are compatible for any computer.

Second, a consumer should determine whether to purchase a dye based or a pigment based ink. The difference between these two is how ink dries on the paper. With a dye based ink soaks into the paper; whereas, pigment ink dries on the surface of the paper. Dye based ink was introduced as the first type of computer ink and is less expensive than the pigment ink; however, dye based ink has the ability to smudge more on paper than the pigment based ink.

Dye based ink has a lifespan shorter than that of pigment ink which does not fade as fast as the dye based ink. Another advantage of pigment ink is that it is has a higher water resistance and will not fade or smudge as much as dye based ink if water comes in contact with it.

Third, consumers can also choose computer ink cartridges that are refillable and can save money in the long term if using computer ink on a regular basis. It is a good deal for consumers to purchase generic ink for printers when on sale because of similar comparisons with name brand ink models. This can save consumers money as long as the ink purchased is compatible with his/her printer.

Fourth, consumers need to acknowledge serial numbers for computer ink models to ensure that when purchasing ink that it will fit his/her printer. Consumers need to be aware that printer ink is not interchangeable because only certain types will fit certain printers.

Finally, to ensure that print jobs are printed at its highest quality, consumers should ensure that the computer ink cartridges are inserted correctly. If not, the quality of print could be jeopardized.
